Hidden Vintage Update:

Dear Ighsaan

There is no denying it - holidays are expensive!  Although such costs can be justified as a life style investment that is guaranteed to enrich your existence, when dealing with such large sums of money you really must have total confidence in the company that is organising your travel arrangements, both in terms of their capabilities as well as their financial security.  In the past when prospective clients have asked me whether Hidden Vintage was bonded I have had to answer that we were not.  At the time there was no bonding scheme available in South Africa and the only guarantees I could offer were either testimonies from past clients or our SATSA (Southern African Tourism Services Association) membership, which confirmed that Hidden Vintage had passed the required yearly credit checks.

The good news is that earlier this year SATSA implemented a bonding scheme for its members and so I can now proudly

announce that Hidden Vintage is fully bonded.  For those of you not familiar with the bonding concept it is similar to an insurance scheme.  Any payments you make to Hidden Vintage will now be guaranteed by a third party and will be refunded to you in the event that Hidden Vintage is unable to provide the services booked and is unable to offer a full refund.

Guaranteed financial security can now be added to the growing list of reasons why Hidden Vintage is fast becoming one of Southern Africa’s premier inbound tour operators!

Happy holidaying,

Pierce

Hidden Vintage Suggests: A Luxury Train Journey

If you could cast your mind back 100 years you would find yourself in the golden age of steam; a romantic era of travel where luxury train journeys were the preferred choice of locomotion for those with means.  In contrast to most travelers today, passengers of the time would have perfected the art of savouring the journey and there would have been much excitement and anticipation as the shriek of the whistle announced the start of the voyage and as the oversized locomotive puffed and hissed its way out of the station.  Such a trip would have been a wonderfully social occasion; a time to renew old friendships and initiate new ones - not to mention the perfect opportunity to kindle a romance!  124/Rovos passenger.jpg

As the train slowly ground its way towards its destination, passengers would gaze, mesmerized, at the ever changing panoramas that slid past their windows and the train’s frequent water stops would allow time for a quick off train excursion, offering passengers a momentary glimpse of wild new worlds.

Dinner would have undoubtedly been one of the highlights of the day and passengers would have dressed accordingly, donning their finest outfits to parade before their peers in anticipation of the veritable feast that lay ahead.   Then, as the butlers cleared away the last of the fine china, crisp linen and silverware, the men would withdraw, probably to talk business or politics in the observation car, while the ladies continued the conversations of earlier in the day.  At the end of the evening passengers would retire to the comfort of their private sleeping compartments and would, one by one, slip into a deep slumber aided by the emotions of the day, the rhythmic sounds of the train and, no doubt, a glass or two of claret.

South Africa today is blessed with two of the world’s most exclusive train experiences, Rovos Rail, which is reputed to be the world’s most luxurious train and the widely renowned Blue Train.  Both offer the discerning traveler a lavish and leisurely alternative to flying between Cape Town and Pretoria… ‘chicken or beef’ anyone?

Hidden Vintage Presents: Kurland

A family friendly haven of taste and tranquility in the Garden Route.

In order to offer you the best product and service possible it is important for us to stay in close contact with our suppliers and it was for this reason that my wife and I, along with our 10 month old daughter, packed the car last September and drove the five hours or so to the Garden Route.  As well as a busy daily schedule of meet124/Kurland.jpgings and site inspections this was the perfect opportunity for us to put ourselves in our clients’ shoes and see how family friendly some of the lodges in the area really are.  In this regard Kurland quite simply stole our hearts away.

It is not often that the scrutinising eyes of my wife can’t find fault with a place but this Relais and Chateaux country hotel truly exceeded all our expectations.  Kurland is a place where the whole family can unwind and enjoy their holidays in a relaxed yet elegant setting.  It is a special haven of taste and tranquility that even offers children their own Relais and Chateaux luxury experience.
