Hidden Vintage Update:

Dear Ighsaan

A rugby world cup can be a confusing time when you come from Ireland, have a French mother, an Argentine wife (who’s parents are Spanish) and live in South Africa.  To be honest I don’t think I’ve ever flipped allegiances so many times in a 3 week period.  However at the end of it all I’ve got to admit to feeling a certain pride and happiness at the Springboks being crowned World Champions – a title they thoroughly deserve.

It also feels good to know that this world cup win has resulted in more than the swollen pride and inflated egos of a bunch of beer swilling and boerewors eating armchair spectators.  On the 20th of October from the shebeens in Soweto to

the mansions in Constantia, the country’s televisions were all tuned in to the final between South Africa and England, and the collective roar of victory as the final whistle blew was the signal for the start of a country wide celebration.  Like the world cup win in 1995 this triumph momentarily united the nation and has added another smidgeon of glue that helps strengthen the bond holding our disjointed country together.

It has also made the prospect of the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa in 2009 all the more enticing…

Happy holidaying,

Pierce

Hidden Vintage Suggests: Serviced Apartments & Holiday Villas

If an active holiday itinerary, hurrying from one destination or visit to the next, is not your idea of a relaxing break there is good news ahead.  Serviced apartments and holiday villas are at last taking off in South Africa offering an innovative, flexible and stylish new accommodation option that promotes a holiday lifestyle focused on local living.

The self catering apartments Hidden Vintage offers in Cape Town under the African Elite Properties banner are already proving popular with our longer stay visitors.  The standard of comfort, facilities and décor are consistently good (they have been officially graded 4 star by the South African Tourism Grading Council) and to ease the work load daily housekeeping and concierge facilities are already included.  Furthermore the central location of the apartments (either in the Waterfront or the trendy Waterkant area) ensures that a whole host of cafes and restaurants are only a short walk away, which will be good news for those of you who don’t include cooking amongst your favourite holiday activities.

However the Cape is not the only region that you should consider for a single destination holiday in South Africa.  For many years Plettenberg Bay has been the favoured holiday playground for well-to-do South African families, and visitors escaping the northern hemisphere’s winter are now starting to follow suit.  More and more people are opting to spend a week or two simply soaking up the sun and enjoying the beaches and lively holiday vibes of Plett.

Like Cape Town, the Garden Route offers a wide variety of different attractions and activities as well as a well developed infrastructure making it an ideal base for an independent, sun holiday with friends or the family.  Consequentially holiday villa rentals here are becoming increasingly popular.  Through Plett Villas, Hidden Vintage has sourced a choice selection of spectacular, individually appointed, holiday homes and villas in the Plettenberg Bay area and to ensure your stay is as relaxing and effortless as possible additional services such as cleaning, laundry, baby sitting, shopping and catering or chef services can all be provided on request.  The popularity of these villas is such that neither love nor money will find you one over the upcoming Christmas and New Year period but outside of this peak time we can still help.

Hidden Vintage Presents:  Kensington Place

On November the 5th, ten years to the day since it first opened its doors, Kensington Place celebrated its 10th birthday with an aptly named DECADEnce party.  When I received the invitation a few weeks earlier and noted that this was scheduled for a Monday evening and was to be strictly black tie (or a decadent interpretation thereof) I assumed that this had been carefully orchestrated to cut back on the number of guests who would actually show up and to ensure an early(ish) night.  Surely this party was going to be a damp squib?

Like many others, I suspect, there was a distinct lack of enthusiasm as I adjusted my bow tie before leaving home on Monday evening but..
